About the training
The KALARI SUKHATHIRUMMU massage
Kalarippayattu is one of the oldest martial arts (dating back more than 3000 years), originating from Kerala in South India.
Kalarippayattu masters are most often also therapists. The Kalari has its own therapeutic system, called "Kalari chikilsa." It incorporates principles from Yoga and Ayurveda into its healthcare system.
There are different types of massage in India and among them the most renowned is the Kalari massage.
This system uses long, fluid, circular movements combined with just the right amount of pressure, traditionally performed on the floor. These agile, deep, rapid, and precise movements make it a truly unique massage.
By being connected and coordinated, these movements help to energize the chakras and the massage stimulates the Marma points (vital energy points), resulting in exceptional care.
The Kalari massage taught by Shreeni at our school is performed exclusively with the hands. Foot massage requires a dedicated room with ropes on the walls or ceiling and is very physically demanding for the therapist. A solid foundation in the basics and good physical condition are necessary before attempting foot massage.
This full-body treatment is effective, comprehensive, and differs from standard protocols. It is an integral part of our Ayurvedic treatment protocols, and we recommend it to all experienced practitioners wishing to expand their range of services.
