ABHYANGA

Abhyanga is the foundational traditional massage of Ayurveda. The term comes from Sanskrit: Abhy meaning "all" and Anga meaning "body." It is therefore a full-body massage performed with vegetable oils adapted to the individual's constitution and imbalances.

This ancient treatment is considered one of the fundamental practices of Ayurvedic lifestyle. Both preventative and therapeutic, it acts on the body and mind, promoting relaxation, vitality, and overall balance.

Depending on the oils used, Abhyanga helps to balance the Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas. It stimulates the skin, muscles, and various circulatory systems (blood, arterial, and lymphatic), while also providing a profoundly calming effect on the mind.

According to Ayurvedic tradition, this massage also promotes the mobilization of toxins (ama) present in the tissues, allowing their movement to the digestive system so that they can be transformed and eliminated through the digestive fire (Agni).

When practiced regularly, Abhyanga supports overall vitality, maintains body flexibility and helps to maintain physical and emotional balance.

Beyond its physiological effects, Abhyanga massage also relies on the quality of presence and care of the practitioner, promoting an experience of deep relaxation and reconnection to the body.
